ROAD TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS

Injuries sustained in road traffic accidents may vary from bumps and bruises, minor whiplash injuries to the neck and back, to very serious injuries involving broken bones, brain damage or fatality.

Provided you were not at fault for the accident you will be entitled to claim compensation if you have incurred an injury, however minor.

The law in this country requires all drivers of motorised vehicles to have appropriate insurance to cover them in the event that they cause a road traffic accident and it will be the insurance company, rather than the individual driver, who will be responsible for paying you damages following a successful claim.

Even if the driver was not insured at the time of the accident or cannot be traced, then the claim can be pursued against the Motor Insurers' Bureau, which deals with all claims against uninsured or untraced drivers.

If you have been involved in any kind of road traffic accident and it was not your fault, then you would be entitled to claim damages for any of the following:

  • Personal injuries, for which medical evidence will be required
  • Damage to your motor vehicle or cycle
  • Loss of earnings
  • Physiotherapy charges or other rehabilitation costs
  • Medication expenses
  • Travelling expenses
  • Damage to clothing and/or other personal effects
  • Care
